Badrinath at 3,300 meters is already a world apart — flanked by the Nar and Narayana ranges, the Alaknanda rushing below, Nilkantha towering above. But the journey doesn't end at the temple gates. Mana Village, a short drive away and the last settlement before Tibet, opens the door to the real high country.

From Mana, a 6 km trek on rocky terrain climbs to Vasudhara Falls at 3,658 meters. The waterfall drops 400 feet off a sheer cliff face, and the legend holds that its spray only touches those who are pure of heart. Standing there with Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, and Balakun filling the skyline, it's easy to believe it.
